The 2024 Harvesting season is off to a good start. A reminder to all residents that we will do weed pickup off of the end of docks on Fridays, weather permitting. Please do not leave the weeds at your shoreline or break wall as we have had some damage to our machines while attempting to get into shore with the lower water levels as well as wind issues while trying to maneuver in tighter areas between docks, hoists and moored boats. Again, weeds should only be left on the ends of your dock for a successful pickup.
We have a few openings on the board of the SBIA. If you are a resident of the weed district and a current member of SBIA and you are interested in volunteering to be on our board please contact our president Todd Harris. A reminder that our Annual Business Meeting and Picnic will be held at the Boat House Restaurant on Saturday August 17th. Festivities will start at 11:30 for our social hour and our lunch/meeting to follow at 12:30. The "More" tab at the top of this page has a link to the membership/Picnic application. Hope to see you all there!!!

On June 12, 2023, our team experienced a grave loss when Paul Moer Passed Unexpectedly. Our Toughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
Paul Moyer joined the SBIA shortly after he and his wife, Susan, bought a house on LeRoy Island in 2016. They came out here from their Brighton home every chance they got and could be seen regularly out in their boat or enjoying a ride in a friends' boat. When he heard about the SBIA, he was eager to do whatever he could to help to preserve our lovely Bay. He became a director an eventually President in 2020. Everyone like and respected Paul. He was easy to work with and could always be counted on to do what was needed. During his tenure as President, we were able to acquire a much needed second harvester, Little Red, which is able to harvest closer to the docks that Big Red. We also purchased a new conveyor trailer for unloading the aquatic weeds and spreading them on the fields. Paul will be greatly missed not only as a leader of the SBIA but also as a kind and generous friend. As we close out another year of weed harvesting, we all look back on what a wonderful summer we had. There was great weather and an abundance of fun in the sun, with our families and friends on our beautiful Bay.
A big thank you to our harvesting crew for a job well done. We had a minimal amount of issues with our equipment and we were able to run a very effective smooth operation this year. Our equipment is all down at Alpha Boat for its annual maintenance and a few modifications to prepare us for another successful year in 2023. All of the officers and directors wish you a safe and happy holiday season. We look forward to seeing you all next Spring...... With the addition of the new FX5 harvester and our new high capacity trailer last season, we are ready for 2022.
We encourage property owners to gather floating weeds from around your docks and place them on the end of your dock. SBIA will pick them up on Thursday or Friday each week weather permitting. Our annual business meeting and summer picnic will be held at Skipper's on July 23rd starting at 11:30. Please mark you calendars. Our membership/picnic application will be mailed our soon. You may also find the application here on the website. As we close in on the end of the 2021 season we look back on all that we accomplished this year in the efforts to better the harvesting program.
